For the third time in the laser tag industry’s 36-year history, an Industry Innovator Award has been presented by the Laser Tag Museum – this time to Jeff Schilling, founder of Creative Works. He was given the award on June 9 “for all of his efforts on pioneering, creating and promoting incredibly immersive themed environments for the laser tag industry.”
“Before Jeff came into the industry, laser tag arenas were often self-made out of cheap plywood or sewer tubes purchased at the local hardware store,” the Laser Tag Museum wrote. “Jeff, with a vision unlike any other’s, realized that the laser tag industry could have themed environments and amazing gameplay.”

Schilling’s original company was called Virtual Concepts and it created some very unique environments, including one still existing nearly 30 years later in Indianapolis, the museum said. In 1997, he went out on his own and formed Creative Works, better known in the industry as The Wow Effect.
