The 2016 Big Buck World Championship took over The Belmont in Austin, Texas, on Nov. 4 and 5 as players and fans were treated to a fantastic competition and party in what’s called “arcade eSports.” After an intense five months of qualifying, it all came down to this:

On Friday Nov. 4, reigning champ Sara Erlandson went out early leaving it to a nail biting showdown between Kylie Hodsdon and Melinda Van Hoomissen. Van Hoomissen needed two victories to break Hodsdon’s advantage. Van Hoomissen narrowly won the first match but left nothing to chance in the second as she was crowned as the 2016 Big Buck Ladies Tournament Champion. Melinda Van Hoomissen took home $5,000 and the coveted Jugs of Destiny trophy.

On Saturday, two former champions, Chris Fream (2012) and Trevor Gartner (2015), squared off for glory. Playing from the Reload Bracket, Fream needed to win twice if he wanted to hoist Pappy’s Jug. Running away with the first match, Fream put the pressure on. But reigning champ Trevor came back to form leaving nothing to chance as he shot his way to victory in the second.

Trevor walked away with over $20,000 in cash and prizes, the most bucks rewarded for first place in Big Buck history, along with the Jug (see photo). Over 82,000 fans reportedly witnessed the World Champion take home the win on Twitch.TV. With a prize pool of over $100,000, the largest prize pool to date, players left with money in their pockets and memories to last a lifetime.
