Centipede and Missile Command, classic Atari titles that helped kick off the gaming generation in the 1980s, will be headed to the silver screen. Atari recently closed a deal to partner with Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films to adapt the games into film, and fans are waiting with baited breath to see what direction the studio takes.
These branded, sci-fi licenses are coveted by film studios thanks to their easy name recognition, but the challenge will be in finding a narrative arc while maintaining the simplicity of the original games.
Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said the company was “thrilled to partner with Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films to develop feature films based on two of our most beloved titles. Centipede and Missile Command are part of Atari’s unparalleled and rich library of popular games and we cannot wait to see the movies come to life.”
