Lil 500 Go-Karts, open since 1968 in Maitland, Fla., made its final lap this weekend. The business officially closed on Jan. 8.
According to Fox 35 Orlando, Randy Kline’s parents started what was then known as Fern Park and passed it down through the family. “We’ve all been crying for the last week,” Kline said. The years have taken their toll, he added, and he’s retiring.
There’s no one in the next generation to run the business, and Kline said potential buyers didn’t realize the work that goes into running the track. “That’s just the way it is,” he said. “It’s a very rough business.”
