Intercard has designed and installed a customized iWave Reader system for Al Othaim Leisure’s newest entertainment concept, Snow City, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This new venue opened on July 13 and focuses on snow activities such as skiing, snowmobiling, bumper cars on ice, tubing tracks, a ladder and rope way and more.
The card readers at Snow City are customized to address unique venue requirements, both operational and cultural. Operationally, guests pay at the front desk and are issued RFID cards that give them timed-play access to “warm areas,” which include locker rooms for changing into snow-appropriate attire, and “cold areas,” for snow-related recreation. Culturally, the customers’ timed-play is paused and the arcade system is quieted for praying time, observing local religious customs. This system “time out” provides a respectful atmosphere for prayers, and ensures that guests are given the full playtime they purchased. The RFID cards can also be used for equipment rentals, lockers and merchandise purchases.
Snow City’s 5,000-square-meter venue is the first of its kind in this country, and features a unique getaway from outside temperatures that can reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit. There are now more than 30 Al Othaim Leisure venues using Intercard systems.
“Al Othaim Leisure is a true innovator in the FEC category,” said Scott Sherrod, CEO of Intercard. “And with innovation comes challenges. Our relationship with Al Othaim brings out the best in my team, and Snow City is another example.”
